Pete Buffon joined Berkeley Lab in 2023 and is a member of the Berkeley Lab Cyber Security team. Pete works on a wide variety of security operations areas including vulnerability management, incident response, and cloud security.

Sophia Caceres is the Program Manager for Performance Metrics & Data Analytics within the Environment, Health and Safety Division. Sophia is passionate about data operations management and continues to work with subject matter experts to help them analyze, visualize and tell stories with their data. Sophia has dedicated the past 12 years to Berkeley Lab, previously serving in the Budget Office before her current role at EHS.

Geoff has been the lead for DOE’s public access compliance efforts at the Lab since 2019.

Gary Jung is the Department Head for ScienceIT at the Lab and is the manager for the High Performance Computing service at UC Berkeley. He also led the effort to launch Lawrencium in 2008, a Top500 list HPC Linux cluster at the time, in order to make institutional HPC available to all Lab researchers. Other projects include a strategic role in the development of the highly successful Berkeley Research Computing program at UC Berkeley in 2014. Gary Is one of the recipients of the 2023 Director’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Andrew has been immersed in the world of IT world since he was 13, from crafting intricate text-adventure games in BASIC on his dad’s trusty 8086, to fixing computers for neighborhood businesses, and orchestrating elaborate online pranks to "break" the internet. After earning his Mathematics degree at UC Berkeley, he rode the dot-com wave, building full-stack LAMP apps on the digital frontier. Today, he specializes in helping scientists harness computational power, streamline complex data workflows, and leverage AI inference services, adding rocket fuel to groundbreaking research.
IT Policy Program Manager
Jared Schober is an IT Policy Program Manager on the Lab's IT Policy team, with a background in IT consulting and public policy. In this role, Jared focuses on government relations and policy related to IT and cybersecurity and their potential impact on lab research and operations, as well as managing the Lab's relationship with the rest of the UC's IT community.

If it's IT, I've probably done it. Over my nearly 30 years in IT, I've worked in small and large places, on small and large networks, in the public sector, private sector, education, and non-profits. Worked for start-ups and established companies. I've done user support, networking, software, databases, cloud computing, and mainframes. There's always something new to learn in IT, which is what I love about it.

Adam is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Information Technology (IT) Division Director at Berkeley Lab. With more than 16 years experience as the Deputy CIO, Adam leads risk-management, cyber security strategy, assurance and compliance, and overall technical strategy in cloud, HPC, collaboration technologies, and data centers. Prior to joining the Lab, Adam spent 8 years as a researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
